SEXUAL VARIATIONS AND DEFINITIONS
Bondage and discipline (B&D)—Sexual stimulation and arousal is related to some form of ‘punishing’ behavior, like tying up a partner, or spanking. It is a milder expression of sadism and masochism.
Bestiality—Sexual relations between humans and animals.
Exhibitionism—Sexual stimulation and arousal from showing your genitals, typically the ‘flasher’, a man who exposes his genitals, and often masturbates, in front of other people, usually women.
Fetishes—Sexual arousal and stimulation from objects or body parts, which are not usually associated with sex.
Frottage—Sexual arousal from close contact with other clothed people, for example in crowded trains, etc.
Incest—Sexual contact between related family members.
Masochism—Deriving sexual enjoyment and arousal in relation to suffering pain. (When put together with sadism, this is also known as ‘S&M’)
Paedophilia—Sexual contact between an adult and a child.
Prostitution—Receiving payment for sexual contact. Prostitutes may be male or female.
Rape—An act of violence in which a person (male or female), is forced to engage in some form of sexual intercourse.
Sadism—The counterpoint to masochism; deriving sexual gratification by inflicting pain on someone else.
Transsexuality—Believing you have been born into the wrong sex, and wanting to live life as a person of the opposite sex. Some transsexuals have sex change operations.
Transvestism—Gaining pleasure (usually sexual) by dressing in the clothes of the opposite sex. Practiced by people who may not be homosexual, or transsexual.
Voyeurism—Sexual arousal is obtained by watching or spying on other people, often as they undress or have sex.
Some of these may be practised among consenting, willing partners, and may cause no one harm. Others definitely do not fit into that description (like incest, rape, and paedophilia) and therefore cannot be condoned under any circumstances. They are also illegal. Some of these practices may indicate that a person has a sexual problem, and should seek professional help.
